A Donchian breakout strategy on Freqtrade, backtested and run in dry-run, with a news-watcher that classifies headlines with an LLM and pauses trading during bad macro conditions.
Why
Trading strategy ideas are easy to believe and hard to prove, so this one was backtested, run in dry-run mode, and wired to stop itself when the news turns bad.
What I built
- A trend-following Donchian breakout strategy on the 4-hour timeframe, running on Freqtrade in Docker.
- Mean-reversion variants were tested too and rejected, because exchange fees ate the edge.
- A separate news-watcher service pulls headlines, classifies them with an LLM, and pauses trading during bad macro conditions.
Result
A validated strategy with a safety brake, tested without real capital first.
